The Garden of Eden

When I think of the future, I think of a place like the Garden of Eden. Before God had to expel Adam and Eve for being disobedient by eating the “forbidden fruit” and becoming aware of their nakedness. When they were not aware of their nakedness, they lived day-to-day enjoying all the garden had to offer with their guards down and no barriers between them. They were very transparent with each other and put each other’s needs and desires before their own.

Their nakedness was not only physical but also spiritual, emotional and relational. Adam and Eve did not hide their emotions, thoughts and ideas from each other because they knew they would not be subjected to ridicule. They felt accepted and loved in the garden. Their nakedness allowed them to be their true selves without fear and doubt or criticism.

Once they realized they were naked, they began to be afraid and tried to hide from God because they felt guilty. They also tried to cover up their private and emotional parts. Adam and Eve began to build barriers between each other after Adam blamed Eve for them eating the “forbidden fruit”, even though, it was Adam that God told not to eat the forbidden fruit.

In my vision of the future, the nakedness that Adam and Eve had before being expelled would be present. It would be one where we all got along enjoying all that was available. There would be no hate, war, pain, death, prejudice or government. Challenges and issues would be treated with love, respect and understanding. People would see each other as their brothers and sisters, not as a foe to conquer. Everyone in society would be equal because we would be naked – in every way. There would only be love, understanding, caring and sharing.

Why can’t we hit re-set?
